New Jersey Red Bank area implant dentist Bruce Bilow learns innovative surgical procedures from renowned implantologist Dr. Leon Chen

Monmouth County dentist Bruce Bilow travels south to learn new implant techniques from Dr. Leon Chen. Dr. Chen was the featured presenter at Dr. Arun Garg's Masters series implant seminars course given this June in Miami, Florida. Dr. Chen is an expert implantologist and has placed more than 20,000 implants in his career .

Dr. Leon Chen is founder and CEO of the Dental Implant Institue. Dr. Chen is world renowned for his development of the techniques of Hydraulic Sinus Condensing , Vertical Translation for Vertical and Horizontal Augmentation techniques. Through his Hydralic Sinus Condensing and Vertical Ridge Augmentation invention, he developed a 5-in-1 surgical procedure for complicated cases which allows a doctor to combine five surgeries, which previously took 16 months for the patient to heal, into one surgical visit that is less invasive, less painful, with a faster healing time of only four months, and the highest success rate. For ideal cases, Dr. Chen developed the 15 minute implant, which is performed using the special patented drill he invented for this procedure. He revolutionized the field of implant dentistry, and through his inventions, has changed the dental textbooks on implants. Presently, Dr. Chen is focusing his efforts on Implant Complication Management.

Monmouth County dentist Bruce Bilow attended the Masters series implant seminars in Miami Florida to learn new and exciting innovations in implant dentistry. When asked about implants Dr. Bruce Bilow states " dental implants can allow a patient to smile confidently and function at their highest level . I am always amazed at how appreciative patients with dental implants are. Dental implants can be used to replace a single lost tooth or to anchor an entire arch of teeth".

A dental implant is the best tooth replacement available today. When trauma or disease takes away your tooth, a dental implant can be the most appropriate replacement treatment available . In the past , the most common replacement for a lost tooth was a fixed three unit bridge. Because a fixed bridge requires tooth removal on both teeth adjacent to a lost tooth , Dr. Bruce Bilow and many of his colleagues now consider this treatment a second choice to a dental implant. The goal of replacing a missing tooth is to create a new tooth that can look, feel and function as good or better than the lost tooth.

Many Americans have lost more than one tooth and are miserable with their removable teeth. Full and partial dentures rarely replace the look, feel and function of a lost tooth or teeth. Great news for denture sufferers. Dental implants can be used to replace those lost teeth or used to anchor loose ill fitting dentures. The best part is you will be able to look good, feel confident and eat foods that you like again .

Good and bad news about dental implants .

The bad news for many people is the amount of bone lost after a tooth removal can make them poor candidates for dental implants. A dental implant needs to be held securely to the bone. After a tooth or teeth removal many patients lose bone height and width especially in the first six months to one year. Without sufficient bone, an implant cannot be placed ideally to recreate the look , feel and function of your lost tooth.

Good news. Implant doctors such as Dr. Arun Garg and Dr. Leon Chen have worked tirelessly studying and developing techniques to recreate and grow lost bone . These innovative procedures will allow for more ideal placement of implants . Patients will be able to have teeth replacements that look, feel and function at the very highest level.

United States of America (Press Release) June 7, 2008 -- Monmouth County implant dentist Bruce Bilow attends the Masters series oral surgery course in Miami Florida. This is the first of a series of advanced live surgery courses in the Masters series presented by Implant Seminars.

Implant Seminars was founded by Dr. Arun K. Garg. Since 1989 Dr. Garg has been teaching extensive hands-on surgical training workshops. With his textbooks on Dental Implant, Bone Harvesting and Grafting, Growth Factors for Dental Implants, being translated into eight different languages, Dr. Garg literally "wrote the book" on contemporary implant dentistry .

Dr. Garg and Implant Seminars provide quality continuing education on the subject of dental implants and related topics. At this lecture Dr. Arun Garg performed live surgeries on two patients . Dr. Garg was able to demonstrate the latest techniques in sinus grafting and an anterior ridge expansion with simultaneous implant placement. Both patients were only given a local anesthetic and were comfortable through out and after the procedure. Thousands of dentists across the country have been trained by Dr. Arun Garg and can attest to his clinical skill and mastery of the subject matter.

Many dental consumers want to know "What exactly is a dental implant ?" A dental implant is a tooth root replacement. After the dental implant is surgically placed where the old tooth root was, it will become one with your bone (this is called osseointegration) and a new crown can be attached to the implant. The new crown and implant will feel and look as good or better than your original tooth . When asked what is a dental implant Dr. Bilow often says "it is the best thing that has happened to dentistry."

Across the globe there is growing demand to replace missing teeth with dental implants. Patients are becoming more informed consumers thanks to educational efforts of dental teams and the availability of information on the internet. Patients are raving fans of dental implants and are spreading stories about how natural they feel, look and function. There is a bright future for dental implants.

Dr. Bruce Bilow states: "I have been restoring dental implants for more than twenty one years and was always amazed by the positive response patients have with dental implants. Now that I have started placing dental implants I am amazed at how quickly patients recover from the placement procedure and how much more control I have over the restorative phase of treatment."

Placement and restoration of dental implants takes a huge committment of time and money to learn . Most of the top courses are out of state and have substantial tuition . Few dentists are able to leave their practices for the time it takes to become proficient at implant placement and restoration . Dr. Bilow states" I have taken over 200 hours of implant continuing education in the last year alone and will continue to take courses on implants as the information is constantly changing. "

Notable colleagues in attendance were Dr. Paul McAllister from Hagerstown Maryland, Dr. Pedro Cuartas from Houmas, Louisiana, Dr. Chris Bernardini from Staten Island, NY, Dr.Shreyas Patel from Syracuse, NY and Dr. Erik Mendelsohn from Atantic City, NJ.

Dr. Bruce Bilow maintains a general restorative and family practice in Little Silver, NJ and can be found online at www.NJLaserdentistry.com .

Welcome to our dental implant blog !

When asked "what is a dental implant" I routinely respond "that it is the best thing that has happened to dentistry !".

In my twenty one years of experience as a practicing dentist I can tell you that loss of a tooth can be a devastaing event  for many people. With the loss of one or more teeth you will also  lose function and appearance. This hopeless feeling can lead to self esteem and health problems which can harm personal relationships and success at work.

Luckily, the dental implant tooth replacement can save the day by restoring the appearance and function of your missing tooth. Unfortunately, not all lost teeth can be replaced by dental implants. Dental implants require bone to hold them in place. Bone is what holds your natural teeth in. So where does the bone go after a tooth extraction ?Some studies indicate that you can lose about 60 percent of the height and 40 percent of the width of bone within the first 6 months after a tooth extraction. Wow- that is ALOT of bone.!

So if you need a tooth extraction  and you want to preserve the bone ask your implant dentist to place a bone preservation graft . A bone graft can come from varying sources however the best  source by far is your own  bone. For many reasons, your own bone is difficult to harvest so most of the time your implant dentist will use some other source of bone. Ask your implant dentist about the pros and cons of varoius bone graft materials.

It is always better to see your dentist regularly- at least twice a year so that he can help you keep your teeth healthy, but sometimes "stuff happens" and we need to lose a tooth. When this happens, consider replacing that missing tooth with a dental implant- you will be glad you did it.
